Advantages of Basal Body-Temperature Chart
Posted in BBT Chart on March 5th, 2010 by admin – 1 CommentThe primary advantage of preparing a basal body-temperature chart is that it can be used to increase chances of getting pregnant, and serves the purpose of a natural family planning chart. All women do not ovulate on the fourteenth day of a normal menstrual cycle. Ovulation may occur on day 10 or day 14. BBT chart is actually an ovulation chart that allows you to estimate the time you ovulate.
If you and your partner do not have fertility problems, you can achieve success and get pregnant within four to six cycles after using a BBT chart for determining the fertile days. Since the basal body temperature method only allows you to estimate the ovulation time, you need to use it along with monitoring your cervical mucus during the two phases of your menstrual cycle. Apart from its common use as a tool to increase chances of pregnancy, the basal body temperature method has other distinct advantages as well.
When you have been using contraceptives over a long period, especially oral contraceptives that restrict ovulation, there is no way of knowing whether you are actually ovulating or not. Normally a BBT chart shows a sustained biphasic pattern of rise and fall in basal body temperature. If your basal body temperature chart does not show that pattern, it is most likely due to absence of ovulation and an alarm for you to seek medical advice.
The second phase of a menstrual cycle, known as the luteal phase, normally lasts for 14 days. Regular menstrual cycles usually indicate that a woman is ovulating properly. While many women with irregular menstrual cycles do ovulate, there are instances of women who do not ovulate even with regular cycles. Basal body temperature chart can be used to diagnose a luteal phase defect, which is whether the length of post-ovulation phase is adequate for sustaining a pregnancy.
BBT chart also helps in identifying male infertility. If you are having sexual intercourse regularly during your fertile days and still not getting pregnant, it indicates fertility problem with your partner and a signal for him to consult a specialist.
